Assault on a Couple in Petit-Raffray: Suspect Bites Police Officer During Arrest

A couple was attacked by two assailants on Friday, October 24, between 5:30 PM and 6:00 PM. The 29-year-old man and his girlfriend were in the Petit-Raffray area when they were ambushed by individuals on a motorcycle.

Under the threat of sharp weapons, the criminals terrorized the couple and assaulted the woman before fleeing with Rs 38,000 in cash and several personal belongings, totaling approximately Rs 52,000 in value. The motorcycle used in the crime had been stolen earlier that day from a resident of Plaine-des-Papayes.

The two thefts, reported to the police stations in Grand-Baie and Plaine-des-Papayes, led the Northern Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) to open an investigation. Reviewing footage from Safe City helped trace the assailants' route.

On Saturday, October 25, Jean Christophe Steeven Pakeeree, 28, was arrested in Goodlands. During his arrest, he bit a police officer. This repeat offender confessed to committing both thefts with an accomplice known as Tong. A search yielded AirPods belonging to one of the victims.
