Identity Theft: The Diocese of Port-Louis Warns Against Online Scam
The Bishop of Port-Louis, Mgr Jean Michaël Durhône, is once again a victim of identity theft. A scam is currently circulating on WhatsApp and other messaging platforms, where individuals impersonate him to solicit financial donations.
In a statement, the Diocese of Port-Louis alerts the public that these individuals claim to act on behalf of Mgr Durhône or the diocese to fund supposed diocesan projects. "All official collections by the Diocese of Port-Louis are exclusively managed by its Finance Department and communicated through the official channels of the diocese," the statement emphasizes.
The diocese urges anyone who receives such a message not to respond, not to transfer any money, and to report the scam immediately to the police authorities. "The Diocese of Port-Louis strongly condemns these malicious practices and remains vigilant against any attempts at identity theft," the statement concludes.
