Suspicions of Interference in a Civil Trial: Paul Foo Kune Expresses Regret for the Harm Caused to Attorney Roshan Rajroop

After a decade of legal disputes, Paul Foo Kune and attorney Roshan Rajroop have amicably resolved a civil dispute stemming from controversial statements made to the police. These statements led to Rajroop's arrest, detention, and harm to his reputation.

An agreement was reached on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, in the Supreme Court regarding the case between attorney Roshan Rajroop and businessman Paul Foo Kune, concerning allegations of influencing the course of a civil trial.

This case originated from a complaint filed by Rajroop in 2015. He claimed that statements made by Foo Kune to the police in 2013 were "false and malicious" and resulted in his arrest and a 14-day detention, alongside damage to his reputation. He was seeking Rs 50 million in damages.

In July 2013, Paul Ah Kong Foo Kune alleged to the police that Rajroop was involved in a "supposed agreement" aimed at influencing the outcome of a civil trial involving Sport Data Feed Ltd and Play On Line Ltd.

According to his statements, the attorney had received or exchanged emails related to a maneuver to benefit one of the parties in the trial. These allegations led to a search of his office and the seizure of his computer equipment.

Regrets

On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, before Judge Denis Mootoo, both parties reached a settlement, thus ending a dispute that began in 2015.

The agreement was read in court by Me Mikash Hassamal, who represented Paul Foo Kune. According to the terms of the agreement, Foo Kune acknowledges making a statement to the Central Criminal Investigation Department (CCID) on July 8, 2013, and providing three statements to the police on July 8, 9, and 12, 2013. He claims to have acted "in good faith and out of civic duty" after receiving certain emails, without any intention to cause harm. "The defendant (Paul Foo Kune) never intended to discredit the character of the plaintiff," clarified his lawyer.

Paul Foo Kune also expressed his regrets for the harm and suffering this matter may have caused to Me Roshan Rajroop and his family. The parties then ratified the terms of the agreement in court.

Me Zahid Nazurally then presented a motion for a judgment to be issued in accordance with the agreement, with no order for costs, which was granted by Judge Denis Mootoo.
