Mauritius Celebrates Its First Centenarian Priest: Father Guy Simonet
Father Guy Simonet has become the first centenarian priest in Mauritius. He celebrated his 100th birthday on Wednesday, October 29, 2025, surrounded by love and gratitude.
Born into a family of nine children - six girls and three boys - he is the second child in the family. Father Simonet comes from a well-known family in Curepipe that has a strong presence in the pharmaceutical sector. His father, also named Guy Simonet, was the owner of Simonet Pharmacy located in downtown Curepipe.
His brother, Pierre Simonet, distinguished himself through his social and political engagement.
Ordained as a priest in France on July 5, 1953, Father Simonet was sent on a mission to the island of Réunion, where he dedicated his entire life to serving the Church and the community.
After many years of dedication, he returned to Mauritius at the age of 90.
