Suicide of a 17-Year-Old Girl: Minister Avinash Ramtohul Calls for Parental Vigilance
The Minister of Information and Communication Technologies, Avinash Ramtohul, has confirmed awareness of the suicide case involving a 17-year-old girl. He met with the victim's parents during her funeral yesterday. The minister made his remarks this afternoon at the launch of a book on artificial intelligence (AI).
Avinash Ramtohul explained that his ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family Welfare, as well as the Information and Communication Authority (ICTA), is currently working on developing strategies and measures aimed at preventing such tragedies in the future.
He also urged parents to fully assume their responsibilities and provide better guidance to their children.
As a reminder, this 17-year-old girl took her own life by hanging last Saturday at her home. According to her relatives, she was deeply distressed after intimate photos of her were shared on social media. Her ex-boyfriend is suspected to be behind this act.
In shock, the family is calling for justice.
