Ravatomanga Case: Nasser Beekhy Remains in Custody

Nasser Beekhy has been remanded in police custody following his court appearance in Port Louis on Wednesday afternoon, October 29. He was arrested by the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC) last Friday as part of the investigation into Malagasy businessman Mamy Ravatomanga, and he faces a provisional charge of conspiracy to commit a crime.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) opposed his release on bail. Chief Investigator Jokhoo presented three arguments: the risk of witness tampering, the manipulation of evidence, and the potential to obstruct the course of justice.

After leaving the court, Me Samad Golamaully, one of Nasser Beekhy's lawyers, expressed confusion over why his client remains in custody, claiming that Beekhy is, in fact, a whistleblower in this case. The attached video features statements from both of Nasser Beekhy's lawyers, Me Samad Golamaully and Ashley Hurhangee.

It is noteworthy that the motion for Nasser Beekhy's bail will be discussed next Monday.

To recall, Nasser Beekhy, a resident of Vallée-Pitot, is accused of conspiring with one David Jean Christian Thomas—a close associate of Mamy Ravatomanga (real name Maminiaina Ravatomanga)—to meet with a senior officer of the FCC to influence the ongoing investigation into the Malagasy tycoon.
