At the Supreme Court: The three challengers withdraw their challenge to the nominations of Senior Counsels and Senior Attorneys
On Thursday, October 30, 2025, the Supreme Court acknowledged the withdrawal of the request filed by Messrs. Jacques Tsang Mang Kin, Ammanah Ragavoodoo, and Avinash Renga Sunassee against the presidential decision dated August 14, 2025, concerning the nominations of Senior Counsels and Senior Attorneys.
Before the Full Bench comprising Judges David Chan Kan Cheong, Karuna Gunesh-Balaghee, and Carol Green-Jokhoo, Senior Attorney Jaykar Gujadhur informed the Court that, since the Senior Counsel and Senior Attorney Act came into effect on October 15, 2025, the challenge was no longer relevant.
Judge Chan Kan Cheong welcomed this decision "in a spirit of serenity within the legal profession" and ordered the definitive withdrawal of the case, while awarding costs to certain defendants and third parties. The plaintiffs committed to not relaunching the matter.
