Court Proceedings: A Nigerian Student Sentenced to 15 Years in Prison for Heroin Trafficking
Chidi Tobias Umegboro, a part-time Nigerian student in Mauritius, pleaded guilty to possessing 194.5 grams of heroin for distribution in the local market and illegally possessing Rs 91,900. Judge Iqbal Maghooa, presiding over the court, sentenced him to 15 years in prison on Wednesday. In his ruling, the judge raised concerns about drug trafficking in Mauritius, stating, "I believe there is a significant public interest in ensuring drug traffickers are punished effectively."
