On October 31, 2025, at 14:30, the Ministry of Education partnered with Mauritius Telecom to launch the educational platform mytGPT. This pilot project, based on artificial intelligence, aims to transform teaching by making it more personalized, inclusive, and accessible.

mytGPT is an innovative platform powered by AI, designed to support students, teachers, and parents throughout the educational system. The goal is to foster a more personalized and resilient learning experience, providing continuous access to quality educational content.

A memorandum of understanding was signed on Monday between Doonunjoy Dassaye, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Education, and Veemal Gungadin, the director general of Mauritius Telecom, for the implementation of the mytGPT educational platform pilot project.

AI as a Lever for Transformation

This initiative is part of the national strategy to leverage AI for transformation, aiming to enhance efficiency, productivity, and innovation across all sectors of the Mauritian economy. Education Minister Dr. Mahend Gungapersad welcomed the platform, emphasizing that the integration of AI can significantly contribute to the holistic development of students. He described this initiative as essential for modernizing the Mauritian educational system, highlighting the potential of AI to improve academic outcomes and create learning pathways tailored to the specific needs of struggling students.

Effective Use

The minister also stressed the importance of training teachers, school leaders, and all stakeholders on the effective use of the platform. He announced that the pilot project will be rolled out in one primary school and one secondary school in each of the four educational zones. The project was initially tested at Maréchal College in Rodrigues to evaluate its effectiveness and identify areas for improvement before a national rollout.

Dr. Avinash Ramtohul, the Minister of Technology, highlighted the collaborative nature of the project, calling for synergy among institutions to eliminate silos. He underscored the urgency for Mauritius to become an AI-ready nation to maintain its competitiveness in a rapidly changing world.

The Minister of ICT also reiterated the government's commitment to digital inclusion, particularly for the 9,700 beneficiaries registered in the Mauritian social registry. In this context, he announced that used computers from the ministry will be refurbished to enable students from vulnerable families to access the necessary tools for their learning.
