Premier League: Liverpool Finally Returns to Victory by Dominating Aston Villa

Liverpool is back in form. On Saturday night, the Reds defeated Aston Villa 2-0 during the tenth round of the Premier League. At Anfield, Mohamed Salah (45+1) and then Ryan Gravenberch (58) brought relief to their team and the fans. In the English league standings, Arne Slot's men climbed seven places to third position, while the Villans remain in eleventh place.

Mohamed Salah is now involved in 276 goals in the Premier League since joining Liverpool (188 goals and 88 assists). The Egyptian striker equals Wayne Rooney, who reached the same total while playing for Manchester United. As the team's top scorer, Salah had little trouble finding the back of the net.

After a very poor pass from Emiliano Martinez, who was searching for Pau Torres, the striker lurking in the penalty area intercepted the ball and sent it into the net (45+1, 1-0). Just before the hour mark, the reigning champions managed to secure their lead. Well assisted by Alexis Mac Allister, Ryan Gravenberch deceived Martinez, who was caught off guard by his shot deflected by Torres (58, 2-0).

The Reds could have taken the lead earlier in the match, but a goal scored by Hugo Ekitike was rightly disallowed for offside (43). Meanwhile, Dominik Szoboszlai could only warm the opposing goalkeeper's gloves (23, 33).

The Reds, who had won only one of their last seven matches across all competitions, still showed signs of being in recovery. In fact, the first 20 minutes of regulation time were mostly in favor of Aston Villa. Although Morgan Rogers hit the post early on (5), he later faced Giorgi Mamardashvili (21), as did Matty Cash (19) and Ross Barkley (63).

Unai Emery's men suffer a real setback, having previously enjoyed a four-match winning streak in the top flight. In contrast, the Reds finally return to winning ways in the Premier League, a feat that had eluded them since September 20 (2-1 against Everton). Arne Slot's men breathe a little easier as they prepare for a busy week ahead. Following their match against Real Madrid this Tuesday night in the Champions League, Liverpool will travel to Manchester City.
