A Russian Family Victim of an Accident in Grand-Baie: Mother Injured in Head Admitted to Clinic
A Russian family, who had come to Mauritius for a relaxing vacation, faced a terrifying ordeal when they were involved in a serious car accident on Thursday night in Grand-Baie. Their vehicle ended up overturned in a sugarcane field after a dramatic collision with a Porsche, whose driver fled before the police arrived.
The incident occurred around 10:30 PM on the main road connecting Le Vale to La Croisette. A couple and their two children, aged 17 and 19, were traveling in the car. Reports suggest that as they were heading towards Grand-Baie, their vehicle was struck by the Porsche traveling in the same direction. The impact was so severe that the family car veered off the road and flipped onto its roof in a sugarcane field.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene. The two teenagers suffered minor injuries, while their mother was severely injured in the head. She was initially taken to the C-Care clinic in Grand-Baie before being transferred to Welkin in Moka for intensive care. Her husband and children chose to continue their treatment there to stay by her side.
The Porsche driver, a 34-year-old Mauritian, reportedly fled the scene but was later brought to the C-Care clinic by a friend. He was admitted under medical supervision. Breathalyzer tests conducted on both drivers returned negative results.
Having arrived in Mauritius on October 25, this family was scheduled to return to Russia on November 4. What was meant to be a sunny getaway has turned into a nightmare.
