Blood Donation: Emtel Continues Its Commitment to Public Health
Emtel is addressing a vital and ongoing need in Mauritius while raising public awareness about the importance of blood donation. This year, in collaboration with the Thalassemia Society of Mauritius, the National Blood Transfusion Service, Landscope Mauritius, and the Ébène Commercial Centre, Emtel organized a blood donation drive on Wednesday, October 29, at the Cybercity of Ébène. The event brought together dozens of volunteers, mainly employees of the Mauritian company, collecting 175 pints of blood, demonstrating Emtel's ongoing commitment to public health.
In Mauritius, a patient requires blood every ten minutes, necessitating around 150 pints of blood daily in hospitals and private clinics. Consequently, the National Blood Transfusion Service must maintain a minimum stock of 600 to 700 units each day to meet the needs of various healthcare facilities.
This context prompted Emtel to organize a blood donation drive, particularly benefiting patients with thalassemia, a chronic illness that requires regular transfusions. During this solidarity operation, information sessions and free screenings were offered to the public to enhance prevention and support national public health efforts.
Reaffirming the company's commitment to actively support the blood bank, Kresh Goomany, Chief Executive Officer of Emtel, stated: "Donating blood is a simple act but has a profound impact. We invite everyone to donate blood to make a difference, as every donation counts. This initiative reminds us that behind each unit of blood lies a saved life, a relieved family, and renewed hope. At Emtel, we firmly believe that our true mission, beyond technology, is to connect people through acts of solidarity that give meaning to our commitment."
