Highlighting Yashasvi Yadav's expertise in cybersecurity and cybercrime prevention, Dr. Avinash Ramtohul stated that the Mauritian government seeks the support of the Maharashtra government to develop a national strategy aimed at preventing cybercrime and enhancing online security. "It is imperative to make the internet a safe space for all Mauritians," he declared, urging citizens to use the internet responsibly. He reiterated the government’s vision of ensuring that the digital environment serves as a secure platform for business, education, innovation, and social development.
For his part, the General Director of the Maharashtra Cyber Crime Security Corporation expressed his honor in meeting Prime Minister Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, emphasizing the growing threat of cybercrime globally, which he stated generates revenues exceeding $6 trillion annually. He highlighted the importance of collaboration and knowledge sharing to strengthen cybersecurity systems.
Yashasvi Yadav also informed the Prime Minister about Maharashtra's cybersecurity project, which was recently recognized at the UN Convention in Hanoi, Vietnam, as one of the world's leading cybersecurity initiatives. The project aims to enhance cybersecurity infrastructure, combat online harassment and malicious content, and strengthen law enforcement capabilities through advanced technologies and specialized training.
The discussions also covered equipping Mauritius' renovated Cybercrime Unit with advanced tools, technologies, and specialized personnel. He stressed the need for a coordinated and sustainable partnership between Mauritius and India to effectively address emerging cyber threats. He mentioned that the initiative could include establishing a national cybersecurity hotline to allow citizens to report cybercrimes quickly, thereby enhancing public trust in government protection mechanisms.
