Report on Incidents at Melrose Prison: Three Prison Officers Suspended
Following the report from the Fact Finding Committee, three prison officers have been suspended effective immediately. Disciplinary procedures have also been initiated against them. These actions come in response to incidents that occurred on July 17 at the high-security Melrose Prison, where excessive use of force was noted.
The report states that the inmates did not resist during the incidents, triggered by the seizure of two mobile phones. Surveillance footage contradicts some claims made by the administration: only about twenty inmates were present, and no makeshift weapons were found.
The report also criticized the intervention of the Special Mobile Force and the GIPM, as well as the strip search conducted in an open area, which was deemed degrading.
