Socialist Zohran Mamdani, Trump Opponent, Elected Mayor of New York
Democratic candidate Zohran Mamdani, a socialist and opponent of President Donald Trump, was elected mayor of New York on Tuesday, according to American media outlets NBC, CNN, and CBS, based on preliminary results.
The 34-year-old local official surpassed former state governor centrist Andrew Cuomo and Republican Curtis Sliwa, according to the first figures released by the New York Board of Elections. He will become the first Muslim mayor of the largest city in the United States on January 1st.
