Return of the Chagos Islands: Gavin Glover Denounces 'Political' Motion
Title: Return of the Chagos Islands: Gavin Glover Denounces 'Political' Motion
Content: "A motion that hinders legislative debate." This is how Attorney General Gavin Glover reacted to the amendment submitted yesterday in the House of Lords by Martin Callanan, Shadow Foreign Minister. The latter is urging the British government to consult the Chagossians living in the UK before making any progress on the treaty regarding the return of the Chagos Islands concluded between Port Louis and London.
"A handful of people are playing a completely political game," says Gavin Glover.
It is worth noting that the British government under Sir Keir Starmer decided yesterday to suspend the committee's examination of the bill aimed at ratifying the treaty on the Chagos, in light of a potential parliamentary defeat.
