Fatal Assault on Avinash Kurreemun: The Alleged Murderer Leaves Hospital
Due to an improvement in his health, on Thursday, November 6, Alfaaz Boodhoo was discharged from SSRN Hospital, where he had been admitted since Sunday, November 2. Accused of delivering the fatal blows that led to the death of Avinash Kurreemun at a scrap yard in Khoyratty, the suspect, a resident of Vallée-Pitot, left the hospital to be taken back to the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) headquarters in Terre-Rouge for questioning.
At the CID, the suspect requested to be interrogated in the presence of his lawyer. His questioning will therefore take place at a later time. In the meantime, he remains incarcerated in a police cell.
The CID will confront Alfaaz Boodhoo with several pieces of evidence gathered during his initial interrogation on Sunday, November 2, shortly after Avinash Kurreemun’s death, who was a resident of Terre-Rouge. The suspect admitted to violently assaulting the victim with a metal bar during an argument over used metal bars. "I was the one who hit him, but I didn’t mean to kill him," he told investigators.
The suspect will be provisionally charged with murder this Friday before the district court of Pamplemousses/Rivière du Rempart. After beating the victim severely, he himself transported Kurreemun to the Northern hospital, where his death was confirmed.
