407 Recruits Join the Police Force

407 recruits, including 118 women, have donned the navy blue uniform for the first time. These new police recruits officially joined the force this week and will now undergo six months of training.

During a meeting in Vacoas, Police Commissioner Rampersad Sooroojebally delivered a clear message to them:

"The badge you wear is not a symbol of power, but of service, justice, and sacrifice."

He emphasized the importance of rigor, integrity, and a sense of duty—essential values needed to face the challenges of a changing society and combat crime.

In a context where the image of the police force is under scrutiny, particularly after the Reward Money scandal, the Commissioner urged the new recruits to serve with discipline and dignity, without fear or favor.

"There is no easy road to excellence. Be worthy of the public's trust," concluded the Police Commissioner.
