The Smile of Keyan, 3 Years Old, Extinguished Forever Due to a Drug Addict
On Wednesday afternoon, little Keyan Alfred, just three years old, was struck by a car while walking with his father in Cité-La-Cure. The violent impact proved fatal, plunging the entire neighborhood into mourning. The driver tested positive for drugs.
That afternoon, Keyan was with his father, Ryan Simon. After buying some rotis, they were walking in the neighborhood when a car hit them from behind at full speed. Both of them, along with another pedestrian, were knocked down. The extreme violence of the impact left no chance for the little boy, who did not survive. An autopsy concluded that he succumbed to a liver laceration caused by the violent collision.
As for the father, he required medical attention before being allowed to return home. He told the police that the car that struck them was overtaking a bus. The third victim was admitted for observation. Police administered a drug test on the driver, which came back positive.
A Little Angel Gone
The tragic loss of Keyan Alfred has left an entire neighborhood, and indeed the country, in mourning. "He was a cheerful child, always happy to play," shared Marianne Alfred, the boy's great-grandmother, her voice choked with emotion. "He came to my house every day. He brought so much joy to the family," she continued, tears in her eyes.
Another relative noted that the kiosk in the garden, located right in front of the family home, was one of the boy's favorite places. He would play there whenever he had the chance, under the affectionate gaze of his family. With his smile, mischief, and boundless energy, little Keyan brought happiness to those around him, especially to his parents, to whom he was very close.
Keyan's Last Happy Moments
On Wednesday, the little boy had spent a good part of the day at his great-grandmother Marianne's house. "He wanted to use my phone to watch YouTube. I gave it to him, and I also gave him food. He was sitting there when suddenly he dropped the phone. He saw his dad coming. He started calling him: ‘Simon, Simon!’" she recalled with sadness.
The young man took his son in his arms. "He took him for a walk, and they went to buy rotis," she told us. They had just left the house. A little later, the boy’s mother arrived. "She was looking for Keyan. I told her he was with his father," the great-grandmother recounted.
But as time passed without their return, concern began to grow. "I went out to see where they were. That's when I learned there had been an accident," she said, still shaken. "An irresponsible person was behind the wheel and hit them from behind!" she exclaimed indignantly.
