The Ministry of Health Partners with SIMS Chennai to Enhance Specialized Care in Mauritius
A memorandum of understanding aimed at strengthening specialized health services was signed on Friday, November 7, 2025, in Ebène, between the Ministry of Health and Wellness and the SRM Institutes for Medical Science (SIMS) Chennai.
The agreement aims to promote collaboration in highly specialized areas such as neurological interventions, transplantation, bone marrow grafts, pediatric surgeries, and cardiac electrophysiology while ensuring ongoing medical education and streamlined guidance services for Mauritian patients.
The ceremony was attended by the Minister of Health and Wellness, Anil Bachoo, and the Deputy Minister, Mrs. Anishta Babooram. The signatories were the acting Director General of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Parmanand Mawah, and the Director General of SIMS Hospitals, Paul Robin.
The Minister of Health commended SIMS Hospitals for their responsiveness and support to the Mauritian government last year when they provided emergency treatment in India to Ms. Fateemah Dilmohamed to save her other leg after it was tragically amputated in a climbing accident in Mauritius. Anil Bachoo highlighted this partnership as an example of effective collaboration between the Ministry and SIMS Hospitals.
For his part, the CEO of SIMS Hospitals reiterated their commitment to support the Mauritian government in enhancing the quality and accessibility of specialized health services.
SIMS Hospitals will undertake capacity-building programs related to neuro-interventions and will designate their consultants to perform complex surgeries in Mauritius. They will also assist in implementing the e-Health project and the establishment of an autonomous bone marrow transplant unit in Mauritius. Additionally, training opportunities for Mauritian paramedical staff in various clinical operations will be offered.
They will facilitate the provision of free airport transfer services for Mauritian patients, as well as accommodation arrangements for patients and their companions requiring extended treatment. Continuous medical training sessions for medical staff will also be organized during their visits to Mauritius.
The Ministry of Health and Wellness will cover the travel, accommodation, and subsistence expenses for the consultants and paramedical teams from SIMS Hospitals in Mauritius.
SIMS Hospitals will be included in the list of approved overseas health centers for patient referrals.
