Madagascar's Ambassador to Mauritius: End of Albert-Camille Vital's Mission by Decision of Malagasy Government

Madagascar's Ambassador to Mauritius: End of Albert-Camille Vital's Mission by Decision of Malagasy Government

During the cabinet meeting (held via videoconference) on Saturday, November 8, the Malagasy government adopted a text repealing decree no. 2019-1778 dated September 18, 2019. Madagascar had accredited Albert-Camille Vital as the extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of Madagascar to Mauritius. The repeal, motivated by "specific reasons," marks the end of Albert-Camille Vital's duties, who was appointed in 2019 and previously served as an officer in the Malagasy army.

The official statement, sent electronically and published on the Facebook page of the Presidency of Madagascar, confirms this decision made under the auspices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Albert-Camille Vital, 73 years old, had been in office for five years, contributing to the bilateral relations between the two Indian Ocean nations. No detailed explanation was provided in the governmental document, which only refers to the formal act of repeal.

Albert-Camille Vital is currently involved in controversy. Allegations suggest that the Malagasy embassy in Mauritius issued a letter to local authorities requesting the medical evacuation of Malagasy billionaire Mamy Ravatomanga to Réunion, while he is currently in detention in Mauritius. Additionally, the new Malagasy government has issued an arrest warrant against the businessman, a former close associate of the ousted president Andry Rajoelina.
