Tourism: Over 254,093 Visitors Needed to Reach 1.4 Million
In October, Mauritius welcomed a total of 137,809 tourists, compared to 133,065 in October 2024. This represents an increase of 4,744 visitors, which is a rise of +3.6%. The latest figures were released by Statistics Mauritius on Monday.
The trend is clear: since April, tourist arrivals have shown an upward trajectory each month compared to the same periods last year.
This strong performance in October has brought the total number of visitors registered so far in 2025 to 1,145,907, up from 1,104,865 during the same period in 2024. This translates to an increase of 41,042 visitors, or +3.7%.
Mauritius now only needs an additional 254,093 visitors to surpass the symbolic mark of 1.4 million tourists, as highlighted by the Minister of Tourism, Richard Duval.
"2025 is on track to become a record year, both in terms of arrivals and tourist revenue. I note that since April, the country has consistently recorded monthly increases in arrivals. Additionally, regarding tourist earnings, with a bit of luck, we might reach the Rs 100 billion mark. This has never happened before," said Richard Duval.
On Monday, the Bank of Mauritius also released the latest figures concerning tourist revenues. For September, these revenues amounted to Rs 8.038 billion, compared to Rs 6.875 billion in September 2024.
To date, the total gross tourism earnings for the period from January to September 2025 stands at Rs 71.053 billion, compared to Rs 65.379 billion for the same period in 2024.
"This is excellent news. Let’s remember that in 2024, we were short Rs 6.4 billion to reach the Rs 100 billion revenue mark. From January to September, we have already earned Rs 5.67 billion more than last year during the same period. Therefore, the Rs 100 billion mark is within our reach," added the Minister of Tourism.
