After Revealing the Salaries of Advisors Hired by Pravind Jugnauth: Ramgoolam to Duval: 'Instead of Being a Deputy Speaker, You Should Have Gone for These Jobs'
After revealing the salaries of advisors hired by Pravind Jugnauth, Ramgoolam addressed Duval, stating, "Instead of being a Deputy Speaker, you should have gone for these jobs."
Ramprakash Maunthrooa, a ‘Special Adviser’ hired by the former Prime Minister, Pravind Jugnauth, received a total salary of Rs 8.1 million from January 2015 to November 2024. He served on 14 boards and seven committees, totaling Rs 23.1 million.
Ken Arian, who served as ‘Senior Adviser’ until September 5, 2021, earned a total salary of Rs 3.8 million from February 2018 to September 2021. He sat on seven boards and four committees, totaling Rs 15.1 million.
These figures were disclosed by the Prime Minister in Parliament during Prime Minister's Question Time (PMQT) on Tuesday, November 11. Navin Ramgoolam responded to a question from MP Kevin Lukeeram regarding the names and salaries of advisors who worked under the former Prime Minister, as well as the boards they served on between 2015 and November 2024.
The total salaries of the ‘Senior’ and ‘Special Advisers’ revealed by Navin Ramgoolam sparked quite a commotion within the assembly.
“Adrien is getting his,” one could hear Shakeel Mohamed from the audience.
“Instead of being a Deputy Speaker, you should have gone for these jobs,” Navin Ramgoolam remarked towards Adrien Duval.
Another point of interest during this session was that Navin Ramgoolam mentioned an ‘Adviser’ specialized in ‘ojha’, who received a monthly salary of Rs 32,350.
