Ravatomanga Case: Beekhy Maintains Dawoodarry's Involvement in Influence Peddling
Nasser Osman Beekhy, who is facing provisional charges for conspiracy, continues to assert that Titrudeo Dawoodarry is involved in an influence peddling case. The sixty-year-old contests allegations of data deletion and is set to be tried on November 14, 2025.
On November 11, 2025, Beekhy reaffirmed his statements regarding the involvement of Titrudeo Sanjay Dawoodarry, the acting director of the Financial Crimes Commission (FCC), in the influence peddling case. He also insisted that he never deleted any data from his mobile phone while preparing to board a flight on October 24, 2025. This was during discussions surrounding his bail application at the Port Louis court. The 65-year-old retired firefighter was extensively cross-examined by FCC lawyer Me Harivansh Jeeha.
Q: Were you aware that the FCC was investigating Mamy Ravatomanga on October 14, 2025?
A: No.
Q: Were you aware of this case since October 14, 2025?
A: I don’t know about it, but there is definitely influence peddling involved. I maintain that Mr. Dawoodarry is implicated. I cannot go to the FCC because that’s what I did to pass messages to the Deputy Prime Minister.
Q: Why didn’t you go to the police?
A: It’s my right. I have the right to choose where I want to go.
Q: If I tell you that you did this to save yourself?
A: Completely false.
Q: Do you have any concrete evidence of Mr. Dawoodarry's involvement?
A: I will say that outside of court. As long as I’m under the FCC, I will not say anything about his involvement.
Additionally, Nasser Osman Beekhy explained that he never deleted any data from his mobile phone before boarding the flight. When asked about a phone found in a bag containing his clothes, which a relative left at the clinic where he was admitted, the elderly man claimed he did not know who left the bag.
Q: Just before you took the flight, did you download any applications to erase data from your phone?
A: I have a monthly package that automatically renews every month. There is Wi-Fi at the airport. To reset a laptop, you don't need Wi-Fi or a package. My laptop had a bug, that’s why I reset it. I did not download any applications.
During his plea, Me Ashley Hurhangee, Beekhy's lawyer, argued that there is no 'prima facie evidence' against his client.
"There is a grudge that has been nurtured by the FCC against my client…", the lawyer added.
For his part, Me Harivansh Jeeha pointed out Nasser Osman Beekhy's behavior during cross-examination. Beekhy had to be admonished several times. According to the FCC lawyer, the retired firefighter deliberately evaded questions about whether he had deleted data from his phone.
On November 14, 2025, Magistrate Chrisinta Chavrimootoo will announce her decision. In this case, Nasser Osman Beekhy is provisionally charged with conspiracy, allegedly committed on October 15, 2025. Furthermore, the FCC maintains its objection to Beekhy being released on bail, fearing he might interfere with witnesses or tamper with evidence.
