Parliament: ‘MV Wakashio’: Compensations Pending Awaiting the Supreme Court

In response to question B/989, the Minister of Agro-Industry addressed the compensations related to the sinking of the MV Wakashio. He noted that the report from the Court of Investigation had never been made public by the previous government. The new Cabinet finally released it on October 2, 2025. Regarding compensation, Rs 200 million was paid between 2021 and 2022 by the Japan Protection & Indemnity Club. The complete details have been submitted to Parliament.
