Fatal Hit-and-Run in Camp Levieux: DPP Office Revises Decision and Orders Driver's Detention
A fatal hit-and-run incident occurred in Camp Levieux, prompting the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to reverse its previous decision and order the detention of the driver involved. This decision follows public outcry from the family of the victim, Muzzamil Hussenboccus, and numerous online commenters during a reconstruction of the events on Thursday, November 14.
In a statement released on Saturday, November 15, the DPP Office expressed regret that crucial information had not been disclosed earlier, which may have misled the public.
On November 14, 2025, the DPP held an urgent meeting with police officers investigating the case. For the first time, they were informed of the following facts and circumstances:
- The suspect did not hold a valid driver's license.
- The suspect tested positive for drugs.
- The suspect failed to assist the victim.
- Alcoholic beverages were found in the vehicle driven by the suspect.
These facts are not only relevant but should have been communicated to the DPP at the initial request for advice, specifically in the police memo dated November 9, 2025. Had this been done, the DPP's decision would have been different, according to the statement.
It’s important to note that on November 7, a car collided with Muzzamil Hussenboccus's motorcycle. The 19-year-old driver and his passenger fled the scene but were later apprehended. A drug test revealed that the driver was under the influence.
Moreover, Deputy Assistant Superintendent of Police (DASP) Suhail Lidialam clarified that the police opposed the suspects' release at the Weekend Court on Sunday. However, it was the DPP's decision that led to their release.
