Ramgoolam: "I Have No Magic Wand in My Hands"

Ramgoolam stated, "I have no magic wand in my hands. But we are determined to do everything possible to transform the country." This was declared by Navin Ramgoolam on Saturday, November 15. The Prime Minister (PM) was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Sports Complex in Triolet that afternoon. Members of the MMM were also present, including Deven Nagalingum, Minister of Sports, Junior Minister Karen Foo Kune, Junior Minister Fawzi Allymun, and Ram Etwareea.

During his speech, Navin Ramgoolam emphasized the importance of engaging in sports activities daily. "Today, 50% of children are pre-diabetic. We have decided to ban the sale of soft drinks like Coca-Cola and Pepsi in schools. We need to encourage sports. Today, I am proud to see this complex. It is a jewel available for all age groups," highlighted the PM.

"We will promote sports in Mauritius, such as football, to make it the number one sport. This will help us combat the drug issue. We will be relentless," asserted Navin Ramgoolam. He revisited the record seizure of over 400 kilograms of cocaine discovered aboard the Greek vessel Alpha Bravery, intercepted off the coast of Mauritius last weekend while sailing between Brazil and Singapore.

"One boat, just like the Wakashio incident, the same story. Coming from Brazil, the ship was heading to Singapore. It was in Mauritian waters. If we hadn't intervened, they would have dumped it in the waters of Mauritius. There would have been a drug mafia ready to pick it up. We knew. The police commissioner assembled a team overnight to ensure we not only captured that boat but also its drugs. We will dismantle the drug mafia," Navin Ramgoolam emphasized.

The government leader warned against the growing phenomenon of drug planting in Mauritius. "This is why we established the National Agency for Drug Control (NADC). We are not 100% satisfied with its operations, but we must make changes," he pointed out.

For Navin Ramgoolam, "our priority remains our country. One nation, one destiny." He reiterated the importance of engaging in physical activities. "Sports must become a habit," he stated before announcing that a National Sports Day would soon be introduced.

"Our mandate is for five years, not one. Some talk about a one-year assessment. It is five years. What is one year? I will speak soon. (...) We have endured ten years of mismanagement under the MSM. Today, the country is recovering. I said I am building a bridge for the future. Is a bridge built in a day? We are laying the foundations, and I assure you that we will do what is necessary, and we will transform this country," Navin Ramgoolam concluded.
