Epidemic: Ethiopia Confirms Outbreak of Marburg Virus
On Saturday, Ethiopian authorities confirmed the emergence of a Marburg virus outbreak in the southern part of the country, as reported by the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC).
The Marburg virus, which causes a highly infectious hemorrhagic fever, is transmitted by certain species of bats and belongs to the same family as Ebola. Its mortality rate can reach nearly 90%.
Nine Cases Reported in the South of the Country
As of now, there are nine confirmed cases in the southern region.
