Mega Blood Donation on December 17 in Port-Louis
Every year, the Blood Donors Association (BDA) invites the public to participate in its Mega Blood Donation event, which will take place this year on the esplanade of the Port-Louis town hall on Wednesday, December 17, from 7 AM to 6 PM. The slogan chosen this year is thought-provoking: "A country united by blood."
"We want to raise awareness among the population about the importance of blood donation," explains Dewanand Hossen. This simple act, which is free and accessible, allows many people to heal or survive every day.
To illustrate the urgency of these donations, the president of the BDA recounts a recent case. A patient admitted to a private clinic needed platelets that matched her rare blood type, negative. Due to the lack of a compatible donor, she passed away a few hours after her discharge, while the search for suitable blood continued. "We cannot say she would have survived, but having a donor might have extended her life," notes Dewanand Hossen.
At the BDA, the philosophy is clear: no one should die due to a lack of blood. Unfortunately, tragedies like this still occur, highlighting the need for regular and sustained collections.
This Mega Blood Donation is organized in partnership with the Ministry of Health, the Port-Louis town hall, and Radio Plus, with support from numerous sponsors. It's an opportunity for everyone to participate in a vital and supportive act.
