[Accident at La Cure Residence] A second victim, Feroz Mowlabacus, succumbs to his injuries
A serious accident occurred on November 5th at La Cure Residence, claiming a second victim. Following the death of young Kelyan, aged 3, Feroz Mowlabacus, a resident of Poudre-d’Or, passed away on Thursday after more than two weeks of hospitalization. The 63-year-old man was severely injured when a vehicle struck three pedestrians in the early evening along Ste Marie Street, near the bus terminal.
On that day, a Nissan Juke collided with young Kelyan, his father, and Feroz Mowlabacus. Witnesses described a chaotic scene: panic, screams, and a man lying on the ground, losing a lot of blood. Several people alerted emergency services.
The driver, Kenny Steven Lowtun, aged 33, was quickly apprehended and tested for drugs, which came back positive. He has since been released on bail while the police investigation continues.
Initially transported to Dr A.G. Jeetoo Hospital and later transferred to SSRN Hospital, Feroz Mowlabacus never regained consciousness. His death was pronounced on Thursday, November 20 at 5:30 PM. An autopsy was conducted the following day in Port-Louis to determine the exact cause of his death.
As for young Kelyan, he did not survive his injuries and was declared dead a few hours after being admitted to the hospital on the day of the accident. His father received treatment before being allowed to return home.
This latest loss comes as a citizens’ march took place on Saturday in Rose Hill to raise awareness about the alarming rise in road accidents in Mauritius. The death of Feroz Mowlabacus adds to an already unbearable toll for many families affected by preventable tragedies.
The investigation is ongoing to establish all responsibilities in this tragedy that has mourned a second family in just a few days.
