ACCA Mauritius Strengthens the Accounting Profession with 175 New Certified Members
On Friday, October 24, 2025, the official Mauritian office of ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) hosted the New Member Ceremony 2025 at the Royal Green Wellness Resort in Moka, sponsored by KPMG Mauritius.
This event symbolically marked the certification of 175 new accountants as ACCA Members between January and August 2025. Becoming an ACCA Member—a global professional organization present in 180 countries—requires passing all three levels of ACCA exams, demonstrating professional skills for at least three years, and complying with ACCA's ethical standards. ACCA accountants are authorized to perform specific activities, such as auditing and signing accounts, and are better equipped to operate in high-level consulting and management roles.
The New Member Ceremony 2025 featured speeches from Den Surfraz FCCA, a Mauritian accountant and member of the ACCA global council, Madhavi Ramdin-Clark, Head of ACCA Mauritius & New Markets, and Ashish Ramyead, Audit Partner at KPMG Mauritius.
These 175 new certified accountants join the existing 4,500 ACCA members in Mauritius, which represents about 80% of the total number of accountants in the country. These accounting specialists positively contribute to economic activities, financial management, and the evolution of accounting functions in a constantly changing environment. ACCA regularly updates its curriculum to better meet the needs of accounting and finance specialties through its high-level professional qualification. A comprehensive overhaul of this qualification—aimed at better integrating training, expertise development, management skills, and professional practice at all levels—was announced by ACCA this year, set for implementation in 2027. A transition program for those currently starting their studies has also been defined.
This ACCA professional qualification, recognized in over 180 countries, is equivalent to a British Master’s degree but has the added advantage of being directly linked to the practice of the profession. Individuals who complete the full ACCA qualification (Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3) can then become ACCA-certified accountants (Chartered Certified Accountant), also known as Members of ACCA, following the above-mentioned procedure.
The importance and relevance of the ACCA qualification are recognized and sought after by many employers across various sectors, both in businesses and within governmental and international organizations. In this regard, as part of its analyses on professional needs, ACCA collaborates with such employers, including globally renowned accounting and consulting firms.
KPMG Mauritius, the local branch of the international KPMG network (present in 142 countries), was the sponsor of the ACCA New Member Ceremony on October 24, thus participating in the recognition of the expertise development of the new Members. "At KPMG, we are proud to partner with ACCA to recognize and celebrate the next generation of finance professionals. These new Members embody the future of ethical, agile, and globally-minded leadership. We will closely follow their influence in shaping a better and more sustainable world," said John Chung, Managing Partner of KPMG in Mauritius.
