The verdict was announced on Monday, November 24, 2025, eight years after the incident. Louis Dean Hamilton Golding, 47, was sentenced to 13 years in prison for causing the death of 60-year-old Rabinkumar Tuhobul through assault. The tragedy occurred on October 10, 2017, at Villa Lotus in Trou-aux-Biches. Initially charged with manslaughter in the Assize Court, the resident of Pamplemousses pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of assault resulting in death without intent to kill.

On October 11, 2017, the victim's body was found in a room at Villa Lotus. Police reported overturned and damaged furniture, along with blood splatter on the walls and the victim's clothing. The crime was believed to be the result of a robbery gone wrong. That day, a group of individuals, including the accused, entered the villa and violently attacked Rabinkumar Tuhobul before stealing several items and fleeing. The investigation, led by ASP Purmah, confirmed the accused's involvement. A forensic report by Dr. Prem Chamane indicated that the victim had suffered extreme violence, revealing abrasions, bruises, lacerations, and multiple injuries.

During his trial, Louis Dean Hamilton Golding expressed remorse, stating, "It was a robbery that went wrong. At no time did I intend to kill anyone or injure anyone in that place." A father of five children, four of whom are minors, he also mentioned the recent death of his wife.

Judge Iqbal Maghooa emphasized that he had taken into account the circumstances of the case, the guilty plea to a lesser charge, and the accused's criminal history, which included prior convictions for theft, before imposing the 13-year prison sentence.
