Femicides: 50,000 Women and Girls Killed by a Close Relative Worldwide in 2024, Warns the UN
Around 50,000 women and girls have been killed by a close relative in 2024, which translates to one every ten minutes, according to UN figures that lament, on Monday, November 24, the lack of "real progress" in the fight against femicides.
Last year, 83,000 women and girls were intentionally killed worldwide, with 60% of these cases perpetrated by an intimate partner or family member, as reported by UN Women and the United Nations Office.
