In Forest-Side: Repeat Offender Pouronne Arrested After a Series of Car Thefts

In Forest-Side, repeat offender Donovan Pouronne has been arrested following a series of car thefts. The 37-year-old, suspected of being behind multiple thefts and attempted thefts from vehicles parked in private yards, was captured by the Divisional Crime Intelligence Unit (DCIU) on November 13. Pouronne, a resident of Cité Anoska, confessed to his involvement in several incidents.

In recent weeks, complaints had surged in the Curepipe neighborhood, raising concerns among residents. DCIU investigators were deployed after a wave of nighttime break-ins targeting parked vehicles in private properties.

Among the victims was a Puisne Judge of the Supreme Court. After discovering an intrusion in her yard, she reviewed surveillance footage: at around 3 AM on October 12, a masked individual scaled the wall, attempted to open four cars, and then left empty-handed as all vehicles were locked.

Other residents were less fortunate. On November 1, at approximately 3 AM, the suspect entered an unlocked garage and stole a pair of Apple AirPods Pro 2 from an unsecured Suzuki. On November 10, an attempt to steal from a BMW failed. On November 13, two additional thefts were reported: Rs 900 were taken from one vehicle, while Rs 10,500 vanished from another car parked in the area.

Evidence gathered by the DCIU quickly pointed to Donovan Pouronne. After his arrest on November 13, he admitted his involvement in various incidents. An AirPod from the November 1 theft was found in his possession. During questioning, he also acknowledged other thefts committed in Curepipe, including brand-name shoes. The investigation continues to determine the full extent of the offenses attributed to him.
