Electoral Reform for Better Representation of Women
"Paul Bérenger and I will move forward with the electoral reform," stated Navin Ramgoolam during the official launch of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence on Wednesday, November 26, at the Sir Harilall Vaghjee Hall in Port-Louis.
This reform, which will include a degree of proportional representation, aims to address the underrepresentation of women in Parliament.
The Prime Minister lamented the low number of female ministers and emphasized that every year, violence against women remains a harsh reality, both in public spaces and within homes.
"This is neither a mere incident nor just a statistic... It's one victim too many," insisted Navin Ramgoolam, specifying that violence primarily affects women and adolescents, particularly through cyber violence, a rapidly growing phenomenon. According to him, a responsible government must intervene to reverse this trend.
