Polytechnics Mauritius Ltd: Yamal Matabudul Steps Down After Eight Years

Polytechnics Mauritius Ltd is undergoing a significant change as Yamal Matabudul, the founding CEO, announced his resignation on November 13 after eight years in charge. When asked about his departure, Matabudul stated, "I am leaving for personal reasons."

In response, the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Kaviraj Sukon, expressed his belief in the institution's potential, stating, "I believe in Polytechnics, and the work continues to advance the sector." It has been noted that an officer will be appointed to ensure continuity.

On his LinkedIn account, Matabudul shared his reflections: "Colleagues and Friends, 8 years, a million memories, and the emotions are overwhelming – uplifting, resilient, accomplished, proud. My time at Polytechnics Mauritius comes to an end!" He reflected on the humble beginnings of the institution, which started from an improvised office at the ministry to three initial campuses, now expanded to seven, including two in Rodrigues. These facilities feature specialized laboratories and simulation rooms, among other resources.

Notable Achievements

Under his leadership, Polytechnics Mauritius has achieved:

  • 82 academic programs across six faculties, covering emerging technologies (IoT, robotics, big data, telecommunications, space engineering, artificial intelligence), tourism and hospitality (culinary arts, leisure management, spa and wellness, cruising), health (nursing, pharmacy, phlebotomy, midwifery, mental health, oncology, gerontology, cardiology), engineering (aircraft engine maintenance, sustainable logistics, nautical sciences, interior architecture, climate change), as well as cross-disciplinary skills and languages (soft skills, special educational needs, elderly care, community development), and accounting and financial services (digital accounting, governance, risk management, and compliance, ACCA).
  • Growth from zero to 6,766 enrolled students.
  • 2,988 graduates, with 98% employed before graduation.
  • 88 international cooperation agreements (MoUs) with countries such as Australia, Canada, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Switzerland, and South Africa.
  • 173 staff members across seven campuses, including one in Rodrigues.
  • Over 340 internship and industry partnerships.
  • 103 international students from 16 countries, including 14 from Africa.

"I feel immense gratitude. I had the honor of serving as the founding CEO of Polytechnics Mauritius for eight years. Beyond the numbers, I will cherish my students, my greatest source of pride," he wrote. He also mentioned five consecutive graduation ceremonies, nearly 3,000 graduates, and an employment rate of 97 to 98% before completion of their studies.

In conclusion, Yamal Matabudul stated: "We thrive in collectivity, not individuality. As we celebrate at Polytechnics Mauritius, we will rock you! It’s time for the next chapter!".

Erratum

Two errors were found in the report on the Job Fair organized by Charles Telfair Education, published in our edition on Monday, November 24, 2025. It should have read (i) "Curtin" instead of "Curtis" and (ii) Vincent Montocchio in the caption of the photo instead of "Thierry," who has passed away. The editorial team apologizes to Mr. Vincent Montocchio and Curtin University.
