Irrigation at the Old Rate: CWA Wins Its Lawsuit
The long-standing battle between the Central Water Authority (CWA) and a group of sugar cane farmers reached its conclusion on Friday, November 21. On that day, Judge Gaitree Jugessur-Manna ruled in favor of the public institution, ordering La Ferme and Magenta Water Users Association to pay Rs 95.4 million.
The dispute dates back over a decade. The association, which has 21 members, was relying on a rate established in 1973: 0.015 rupees per cubic meter.
