Travel Ban: Padayachy Seeks to Visit India in December

Travel Ban: Former Finance Minister Renganaden Padayachy is seeking permission to travel under a restricted passport from December 12 to 18, 2025. He aims to attend the Indian Summit 2025 in Delhi, India, with a layover in Dubai, scheduled for December 15, 2025.

Padayachy appeared before the Port-Louis court on Wednesday, November 26, 2025. Accompanied by his lawyer, Me Raouf Gulbul, he filed a motion to modify the travel ban imposed on him in connection with two cases. To support his request, he submitted supporting documents, including an invitation letter and email exchanges confirming his participation.

The police representative, Sub Inspector Mungra, requested a postponement, explaining that the police must first consult with the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) before taking a position on the motion.

Magistrate Shaheen Daureeawoo granted this request and scheduled the case for December 3, 2025, when the police will officially communicate their position. Therefore, the former minister remains under a travel ban.

Renganaden Padayachy faces two provisional charges. He was arrested as part of an investigation by the Anti-Money Laundering Unit regarding an alleged misappropriation of Rs 45 million to the detriment of the Mauritius Investment Corporation and for the benefit of Menlo Park Ltd. Another arrest followed in connection with the Financial Crimes Commission's (FCC) investigation into an alleged misappropriation of Rs 300 million, also to the detriment of the MIC and to the benefit of Apavou Hotels Ltd.
