Cooperatives: Launch of Six New Grant Programs
On Thursday, November 27, 2025, the Minister of Industry, SMEs, and Cooperatives, Aadil Ameer Meea, launched six grant programs aimed at providing increased support to cooperative societies. The event took place at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute for Public Service and Innovation, located in the Cote D’Or Technopole in Réduit. The government will fund these programs at a rate of 80%.
Addressing cooperative members, the minister reminded them that several activities were organized in 2025 to commemorate the International Year of Cooperatives. These included fairs in Quatre Bornes, Port Louis, and Trou D’Eau Douce, as well as a workshop on combating money laundering to raise awareness within the cooperative community.
Aadil Ameer Meea also detailed the programs available to the cooperative community, emphasizing that allocations would be made in a fair and equitable manner.
The programs are as follows:
- The Energy Efficiency Program aims to assist cooperatives in implementing energy-saving measures, offering funding up to Rs 100,000.
- The Local Production Stimulus Program will boost local production and contribute to food security through the purchase of agricultural equipment, with funding up to Rs 300,000.
- The Livestock Program will enable cooperatives to enhance local livestock production through the purchase of goats, sheep, cows, and pigs equipped with microchips, offering a maximum funding of Rs 200,000.
- The Seed Production Program will help cooperatives engage in seed production and ensure their supply, with a maximum funding of Rs 250,000.
- The Zero-Budget Natural Farming Program will assist cooperatives in producing Jiwamrita, an organic fertilizer, with funding up to Rs 200,000.
- The Digitization Program will help cooperatives modernize existing digital tools tailored to their activities to improve the efficiency and productivity of their operations, with funding up to Rs 100,000.
The application deadline for beneficiaries from Mauritius and Rodrigues is set for January 13, 2026.
