Mosquito Control: Imminent Launch of the Sterile Insect Technique

The sterile insect technique will be implemented starting next week. According to Dr. Diana Iyaloo, head of the biology and vector control division at the Ministry of Health, this new phase follows a pilot project conducted last year, during which 3.5 million sterile male mosquitoes were released in targeted areas. Surveys indicate a decrease in the density of dengue and chikungunya vectors. The Ministry of Health has allocated Rs 24 million for the expansion of this initiative.
