50 Years of Constance Group: Navin Ramgoolam Announces Digitization of Airport Services

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Constance Group, Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam praised the success of the hotel group and announced the digitization of airport services to reduce waiting times and enhance Mauritius' tourist appeal.

On Friday evening, along the shores of Constance Belle Mare Plage, the Mauritian hotel group Constance celebrated its fiftieth anniversary in the presence of Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam. In his speech, Ramgoolam acknowledged the group's trajectory, highlighting its reputation that transcends the hotel sector. He contrasted the country’s agricultural heritage, symbolized by "sugar cane beside the beautiful Indian Ocean lagoon," with the current tourism dynamism, stating that today, "the tourism industry is the pillar of the economy" and the "best and fastest means" to create jobs.

The Prime Minister emphasized the need for balance between the public and private sectors. "We should not nationalize everything," he declared. "We recognize that skills from the private sector are necessary. We must maintain this energy between the private and public sectors." He reminded attendees that the island is preparing to welcome 1.4 million tourists, a record, while pointing out the "long immigration queues" that impede the sector. To address this, he reiterated the government’s intention to implement an electronic system. "I reaffirm our intention to implement an electronic system. No waiting for Mauritians and tourists alike."

Navin Ramgoolam reiterated the government's commitment to small businesses, which are woven into the island's "cultural fabric." "Every citizen should feel part of the success story," he called for broad inclusion. The government, he added, is deploying "green tax incentives," investing in "public infrastructure," and planning to "reinvest in the airport and digital connectivity" under a "robust legal framework."

Founded in 1975 on the beaches of Belle-Mare in Mauritius, the Mauritian hotel group celebrates half a century of refined hospitality. From its modest first establishment, it has grown to nine resorts that now make up its portfolio.

In 1999, Constance Hotels & Resorts reached a significant milestone in its development: the group became the first Mauritian hotelier to expand overseas with the opening of Constance Lemuria in Praslin, Seychelles. This marked the beginning of the brand’s international development while carefully preserving its Mauritian identity and foundational values.

Today, the group comprises nine hotels spread across five Indian Ocean destinations – Mauritius, Seychelles, Maldives, Madagascar, and Rodrigues – showcasing Mauritian expertise in luxury tourism, gastronomy, spa services, and golf.
