Rs 31 Million Worth of Heroin Seized in Plaisance: A German Smuggler and His Local Contact Arrested by ADSU

Rs 31 million worth of heroin granules were seized in Plaisance. A German smuggler, Negassi Enrico Kusmallah Stormer, was apprehended along with his local contact by the Anti-Drug and Smuggling Unit (ADSU).

On Thursday afternoon, November 27, ADSU officers at the airport, led by Chief Inspector Parsad under the supervision of Police Superintendent Ghoora, were on alert in the arrival hall. After collecting his luggage, Stormer headed to the 'Green Channel,' where customs officers and plainclothes anti-drug police were stationed. Their mission involved profiling and inspecting passenger bags with X-ray machines. During this process, the German national, who arrived on flight FA 850 from Johannesburg, was identified by ADSU agents.

Upon inspecting his suitcase, heroin granules were found carefully hidden in a false bottom. Weighing a total of 2,087 grams, this white powder was estimated to be worth Rs 31 million in profit for local traffickers upon sale.

In addition to the drugs, Stormer's mobile phone and a tablet were seized for the investigation. He also possessed Rs 10,000 and foreign currency.

"Controlled Delivery"

Following the seizure, ADSU agents organized a "Controlled Delivery" operation. Stormer, a nurse residing in Switzerland, planned to stay at a guesthouse in Grand Baie. Undercover officers from ADSU's Northern Division discreetly monitored the location.

Meanwhile, contact was made between the smuggler and his local accomplices for the delivery. Unaware of the heavy surveillance by the ADSU, a man arrived to collect the two kilograms of heroin. The officers then moved in and arrested the local contact, identified as 34-year-old Mohammad Yasser Burtally, who lived on Impasse Lenepveu, Plaine-Verte.

Burtally arrived in a car to pick up the package. Following this successful police intervention, both Stormer and Burtally were taken into custody. They face charges for "Importation of Heroin With the Intent to Traffic."
