Constance Hotels & Resorts Celebrates Its Golden Jubilee with a Magical Anniversary Evening
The golden jubilee of Constance Hotels & Resorts peaked with a grand evening on November 28, 2025. The event took place at Constance Belle Mare Plage, attended by Dr. Navin Ramgoolam, the Prime Minister, along with George Dumbell and Clément Rey, the Chairman and CEO of Constance Group respectively, Jean-Jacques Vallet, CEO of Constance Hospitality, and a host of prestigious guests. This significant moment was designed to honor fifty years of excellence, passion, and commitment in the Indian Ocean. In his speech, the Prime Minister congratulated Constance Hospitality on this golden jubilee.
The celebration of Constance Hotels & Resorts' fiftieth anniversary featured a remarkable setup specially designed for the occasion. At the center of the resort, a luminous half-moon positioned above the pool created a strong and symbolic backdrop, enhanced by projections on the roofs and facades as well as lighting designed to highlight the venue's architecture. A stage above the pool hosted speeches from Jean-Jacques Vallet, CEO of Constance Hospitality, followed by Clément Rey, CEO of Constance Group, before the Prime Minister addressed the audience. He praised Constance Hospitality's commitment: "I am confident that for the next fifty years, you will continue to be a flagship of our tourism industry and an essential partner in achieving our shared ambitions for the future of Mauritius. Mauritius, which many of our visitors consider a miracle island at the heart of the Indian Ocean, where every horizon tells a story of courage and hope, has managed to turn its challenges into opportunities and carve its own path. This is thanks to partners like the Constance Group over the past 50 years. The Constance Group has not only built hotels; it has contributed to building an industry, developing national expertise, and showcasing Mauritian excellence. I would like to once again warmly congratulate Constance Hotels & Resorts on this golden jubilee."
The official ceremony continued with a presentation of a gift to the Prime Minister from George Dumbell, Chairman of Constance Hospitality, followed by a commemorative photo with the group’s leaders. A fireworks display marked the end of the official ceremony.
The evening continued with a culinary experience dedicated to the group’s five destinations: Mauritius, Rodrigues, Seychelles, Maldives, and Madagascar, featuring specialty buffets prepared by chefs, culminating with a pastry creation made for the occasion. An array of wines from international vineyards: Domaine Etienne de Montille (Burgundy), Domaine Alone (Provence), and Pierre Peters (Champagne) complemented the tasting.
Constance Hotels & Resorts embodies a success story built on authenticity, local roots, excellence, and a sense of service. The Constance Group began as a sugar producer in 1920 before diversifying with the opening of its first hotel, Constance Belle Mare Plage (then Belle Mare Plage Hotel) in 1975. This was the starting point for several projects: the opening of the Legend Golf Course (1994), then Constance Prince Maurice (1998), and subsequently Constance Lémuria (1999) in Seychelles. As the first Mauritian hotelier to expand internationally, Constance Hotels & Resorts is now firmly established in the luxury hospitality landscape of the Indian Ocean with 11 hotels in 5 destinations.
Economic and Social Impact in Mauritius and the Indian Ocean
The group’s expansion has created sustainable jobs and developed local skills. Today, with three establishments located on the East Coast totaling over 500 rooms, Constance Hospitality is a significant employer and a vital driver of development for the Flacq region and its surroundings. The Constance Academy, its dedicated training center located in Flacq, has been training professionals in luxury hospitality since its inception in 1998.
The hotel group continually invests in training local talents — chefs, sommeliers, hospitality professionals — and organizes the Constance Culinary Festival each year, among other flagship activities such as La Paulée by Constance, promoting exchange, knowledge transfer, and skills enhancement.
Building Lasting Connections with Guests
The group’s establishments welcome a loyal clientele, sometimes representing three generations of travelers. To honor the memories and moments shared with its guests over the years, the group launched the campaign "Where the Heart Stays," a concept that pays tribute to employees and customers.
Jean-Jacques Vallet, CEO of Constance Hospitality, emphasizes: "At Constance Hotels & Resorts, people are truly at the center of our concerns, and the numbers confirm this. Among our employees, 40% of our teams in Mauritius have more than ten years of service, a rare loyalty stemming from a genuine attachment to our home. In terms of customer satisfaction, this year Constance Hotels & Resorts achieved an impressive score of 97.2 points on the Global Review Index (GRI), showing constant improvement."
Founded over a century ago in the East of Mauritius, the parent company, Constance Group, has gradually established itself as a major player in the country’s economic development. Today diversified and internationalized, the group revolves around four main business areas: hospitality, agriculture and livestock, investment, and real estate development. For Clément Rey, CEO of Constance Group: "Our development is intrinsically linked to that of Mauritius. Constance is more than just a place; it is a committed group, deeply rooted in its origins and responsible towards the Eastern community. We have a responsibility to meet the needs of the local residents. With our Constance Village project, we are revitalizing the region and preparing a sustainable future where nature, commerce, and human opportunities meet. Mauritius thrives when the vision of the public sector meets the initiative and dynamism of the private sector, and we are fully committed to supporting this ecosystem."
