Mauritius Signs an Agreement with Fortis Healthcare Limited
On November 28, 2025, the Ministry of Health and Wellness officially announced a new collaboration with Fortis Healthcare Limited (FHL) from India by signing a memorandum of understanding aimed at enhancing specialized medical services in Mauritius.
The memorandum establishes a structured framework for collaboration in diagnostics, treatment, and patient care. It also outlines joint initiatives, including medical consultation camps and continuing medical education programs for Mauritian healthcare staff.
The signing ceremony was attended by the Minister of Health and Wellness, Anil Bachoo, and Minister Delegate, Anishta Babooram. The Fortis delegation included Dr. Ritu Garg, Director of Growth and Innovation, Ms. Renu Vij, Head of the International Division, and Dr. Nutan Kaushik, Territorial Head of International Relations for Southern and Western Africa. The signatories were the Acting Director-General of the Ministry of Health and Wellness, Navindsing Jugmohunsing, and Ms. Vij.
Under this agreement, FHL will provide therapeutic recommendations based on medical reports submitted by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, review treatments and estimates after assessing patients in Fortis hospitals. They will also provide additional medical opinions and cover travel expenses for their medical experts participating in workshops and surgical camps organized by the ministry.
In a statement, the Health Minister emphasized that FHL is a leading medical institution, well-equipped, with 28 branches in India and worldwide. He highlighted that FHL offers multiple multidisciplinary health services, including oncology, bone marrow transplants, neurosciences, reconstructive and plastic surgery, vascular surgery, and cardiac care. "Hundreds of Mauritian patients travel to India each year for treatment, and thanks to this new memorandum, they will now also have access to Fortis hospitals," he stated.
Dr. Garg expressed satisfaction with formalizing the partnership with the ministry, stating that FHL looks forward to supporting Mauritius in strengthening its capabilities, developing world-class health services locally, and assisting patients wishing to seek treatment abroad. She emphasized that FHL has world-renowned clinicians and state-of-the-art technology and is committed to a long-term collaboration.
