Road Safety: The Use of Safe City Cameras for Traffic Violations Under Review

The possibility of issuing fines using cameras from the Safe City network is currently under review. A committee is examining this option as part of the reintroduction of the points-based driving license, with the bill scheduled for its first reading tomorrow in the National Assembly.

This was stated by the Minister of Transport, Osman Mahomed, in comments made to RadioPlus on Monday, December 1st.

At present, authorities mainly rely on "Photographic Enforcement Devices", fixed radars that record speeding violations using speed cameras.

Regarding the points-based license, the minister has invited concerned parties to familiarize themselves with the draft law before seeking a meeting with him. He also clarified that they can send their suggestions to their respective MPs for consideration during the debates in the National Assembly.
