Mamy Ravatomanga Case: The 'Disconcerting' Responses of Dr. Mamode Aniff Khan Yearoo

In the Port-Louis court, magistrate Prashant Bissoon sharply criticized the testimony of Dr. Mamode Aniff Khan Yearoo, a cardiologist and treating physician for the Malagasy tycoon Mamy Ravatomanga. Dr. Yearoo provided clarification on Ravatomanga's health status, indicating that the businessman had been admitted to Premium Care clinic for ongoing treatment due to infection risks, which warranted his observation. He acknowledged that it was Dr. Ahmud Soreefan who saved Ravatomanga's life, adding that he had not authorized the surgical intervention—this was permitted by Ravatomanga's wife. Regarding the 'nosocomial' infection, Dr. Yearoo initially claimed ignorance but later stated that he did not treat such infections.

Magistrate Bissoon pointed out that the contention lies not only in Dr. Yearoo's hesitations during his court responses but also in two medical certificates he signed on November 26, 2025. One certificate stated that Ravatomanga could not appear in court, while the other indicated an additional two weeks of rest. The magistrate noted that these documents were "absolutely silent" about the continuation of treatment, observation, and supervision of the Malagasy businessman. He questioned whether it was treatment, observation, rest, or none of these. According to the magistrate, Dr. Yearoo's testimony contradicts the certificates he signed. Regarding the nosocomial infection, the magistrate believes the doctor did not tell the whole truth, stating that such evasive responses from an experienced doctor confuse the court, leading him to take a negative view of the evidence provided.

The magistrate asserted that Dr. Yearoo, with his extensive medical career and Hippocratic oath, should not have given evasive answers. "He has an overriding duty to provide an impartial and honest opinion in court as a medical expert, which he clearly failed to do in this case," stated the magistrate. He expressed disbelief that the same doctor who did not operate on the suspect is now advising that the suspect be kept under his care at Premium Care clinic. The magistrate ordered Mamy Ravatomanga's transfer to prison.
