Salary Compensation: Business Mauritius has Submitted its Proposal

The tripartite process surrounding salary compensation continues, as the Ministry of Labour now has the expected proposals in hand. The deadline was set for December 1, 2025. Among the submitted documents is one from Business Mauritius, which notes its participation in discussions within the technical committee comprising government representatives, unions, and the private sector.

The organization asserts that the working sessions were conducted in a constructive atmosphere, with each party contributing its economic and social data to inform the debate. It expresses confidence in the existing institutional framework and the tripartite mechanism, which is now tasked with reviewing all contributions before determining the amount of compensation.

Business Mauritius also wishes to maintain its collaboration with authorities and trade unions to establish, in the medium term, a more structured method to guide future compensation exercises.

According to the private sector association, an approach based on clearly defined parameters accepted by all would facilitate business planning and provide employees with a more stable perspective. It believes such a framework would lead to transparent decisions that are appropriate to the national context.

Meanwhile, unions have submitted their own recommendations, which range from Rs 855 to Rs 1,694. The date for the next meeting, chaired by Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Navin Ramgoolam, is yet to be confirmed.

This second round of discussions could allow for the announcement of the compensation amount, unless there is a notable disagreement, in which case a third meeting may be scheduled to try to reconcile positions.
