National Certificate of Education 2025: 2127 Students Admitted to Academies

The success rate for the National Certificate of Education (NCE) in 2025 has risen to 70.43%, up from 69.05% in 2024. The results, announced by the Mauritius Examinations Syndicate, highlight disparities between boys and girls and also among the regions of Mauritius, Rodrigues, and Agalega.

A total of 15,047 candidates participated in the exams out of 15,452 registered, with 405 absentees (242 boys and 163 girls). The results show a significant gender gap, with girls achieving a success rate of 73.65%, while boys scored 66.93%.

In Mauritius, out of 14,232 candidates, the overall success rate is 71.16%. Girls scored 74.18%, while boys achieved 67.85%. In Rodrigues, the performance is lower, with a success rate of 57.94% for 806 candidates, where girls led with 63.92% compared to 52.39% for boys. In Agalega, only nine students took the exams, with a success rate of 44.44%.

Certain subjects stood out with particularly high success rates. In Art and Design, the success rate reached 96.32%. Kreol Morisien scored 93%, while Social and Modern Studies peaked at 92.26%. Traditional languages also performed well: French achieved 89.79% and English 84.18%.

Regarding admissions to the twelve academies, 2,127 students met the requirements. The MES director also discussed the situation for Grade 9+ students, who failed the Primary School Achievement Certificate (PSAC) but received an additional four years of preparation. Out of 1,460 candidates, 118 passed and can continue their education in Grade 10.

Others received a letter directing them to the Mauritius Institute of Training and Development (MITD) at the National Certificate (NC) 3 level. This year marks the last participation of Grade 9+ students in the NCE exams, as the current format will be reviewed next year.

To assist parents, the MES has established a Customer Care Desk, operational until next Saturday. This service is available from 9 AM to 4 PM on weekdays and from 9 AM to noon on Saturdays, to answer questions, process complaints, and gather suggestions.

Results for the Primary School Achievement Certificate (PSAC) will be published on December 11. Students who do not achieve the necessary qualifications in one, two, or three subjects—mathematics, English, French, science, and history and geography—will have the opportunity to retake the exams on December 18, 19, and 20. Remedial classes will be organized beforehand to help them address their shortcomings.
