The Mauritius Golf Federation Celebrates a Successful 2025 Season

The Mauritius Golf Federation (MGF) celebrated its annual Order of Merit (OOM) ceremony this weekend, a key event in the Mauritian golf calendar. In his speech, President Yannick Merven reflected on the highlights of the 2025 season, emphasizing the sport's progress on regional and international levels. He noted Mauritius's increased presence in major African competitions, including the African Amateur Championship, the All Africa Junior Team Championship, and the inaugural Africa Region 4 Juniors, where the country excelled with a third-place finish. He also welcomed the emergence of two young talents, Gabriel Le Court de Billot and Tanishq Nobeen, who are now listed in the World Amateur Golf Ranking, marking a significant milestone for the national golfing future.

The President further elaborated on the remarkable evolution of the Team MCB Juniors, highlighted by the addition of new recruits, enhanced coaching staff, and the structuring of the Next Gen project, which positions Mauritian youth on an ambitious trajectory. He expressed gratitude to MCB for their ongoing trust and essential commitment to nurturing young golfers.

One of the federation's cornerstones, the "Golf for All" program, continued to grow, increasing initiation sessions in schools and at MSC, backed by the valuable involvement of volunteers and Balah. The opening of the second MGF–Tiga golf school at the Gymkhana represents a significant step towards democratizing the sport. The clear goal is to enable more youth from this program to participate in the Junior Open 2026, an ambition praised by the R&A, which cited the initiative as an example of structured and inclusive development.

On the technical side, Yannick Merven announced that the Handicap Committee would become more active starting in 2025, enhancing procedures related to social scores and establishing new guidelines to ensure consistent and transparent handicap revisions. This harmonization effort will also accompany the modernization of federation operations, as the MGF plans to introduce new software for managing handicaps and tournaments, furthering their digitalization efforts.

The coming months will also see several major competitions, including the MCB Mauritius Legend in December 2025, the Afrasia Bank Mauritius Open, also in December, and the Mauritius Ladies Classic planned for May 2026. Yannick Merven took the opportunity to thank all the volunteers involved and gave special encouragement to Pierre Pellegrin.

The ceremony celebrated the winners of the Junior National Order of Merit and the National Order of Merit 2025, notably recognizing Olivia d’Arifat, Dwij Ramlogun, Tanishq Nobeen, Kamla Beeharry, Beatrice d’Arifat, Nand Sooredoo, Reshad Purdasy, Gaspar Vercamer, Rakesh Channoo, and Vishnoo Seeneevassen, whose performances illustrate the vitality and diversity of Mauritian golf.

In closing, the President expressed deep gratitude towards sponsors, partners, the R&A, golf courses, Executive Committee members, and the team led by Sashi Goburdhone, whose ongoing dedication has allowed the MGF to reach a new level in its development.
