Attempted Murder in Clémencia, Flacq: Sairah Attempts Suicide After Violently Attacking Her Neighbor
In Clémencia, Flacq, a woman named Sairah is under investigation for attempted murder after she violently assaulted her 63-year-old neighbor, Soomawtee Motee. The incident occurred around 3 AM on Thursday, when police discovered Motee in a pool of blood with multiple lacerations. She was rushed to Dr. Bruno Cheong Hospital, where she is currently in intensive care with a serious condition.
Following the attack, Sairah fled the scene. According to police reports, she attempted to take her own life by ingesting a corrosive substance shortly before her arrest on December 4, 2025. Severely injured, she was admitted to Flacq Hospital for treatment. Sairah, who had been living abroad for several years, returned to Mauritius recently and will be questioned when her health allows.
Investigators quickly identified Sairah as the suspect. Motee's son, living in England, received an intrusion alert from his mother's surveillance cameras. Upon reviewing the footage, he saw Sairah in the yard armed with a knife. He immediately notified his sister, who lives in Ripaille, but by the time she tried to call their mother, Motee had already been attacked.
According to the investigation, Motee was sleeping upstairs when Sairah allegedly broke a window to enter the house, triggering the alert sent to her son. Both women lived alone: Sairah was separated from her husband, while Motee's children live abroad and in another village. Motee's sister was questioned on Thursday to help establish a motive. Ashvin, Motee's nephew, mentioned longstanding disputes between the two women over land issues. "They have been in conflict for a long time over land matters," he told Defi Quotidien, although he could not confirm if this dispute was directly related to the assault.
The Bel-Air/Rivière-Sèche CID learned on Thursday morning that Sairah had already booked a flight to leave the country on December 4, just hours after the assault. Her departure plans were thwarted by her arrest, which occurred immediately following her suicide attempt.
